Project database summary of new additions: late December/early January

While industry temporarily shut down during the Christmas/New Year period (and us taking a break from publishing articles), this did not stop the project database from growing in size. While you were on holiday, 33 new projects were added.

In what was broadly representative of the development scene in Melbourne during 2015, low-rise and mid-rise buildings (anything up to 12 levels) outnumber the number of high-rise proposals by a factor of eight.

An aged care facility located 220 Middleborough Road in Blackburn South and a hotel - Crest on Barkly in St Kilda - are the only two non-residential buildings in the list.

The 31 residential or mixed-use projects have in total 3,836 proposed dwellings with the most units proposed in R&F Property's 124-188 Ballarat Road project in Footscray (1,400). 15 Breese Street in Brunswick has the smallest number of proposed dwellings (11).

The march north continues, with City of Moreland the most represented local government area with eight different projects. City of Melbourne has five new projects and Whitehorse has four new proposals rounding out the top three.

All new additions to the database are listed below for easy reference.

The marriage of old and new can be a difficult process, particularly when the existing structure has intrinsic heritage value. In previous times Fitzroy's 237 Napier Street served as the home of furniture manufacturer C.F. Rojo and Sons. Taking root during 1887, Christobel Rojo oversaw operations though over time the site would become home to furniture manufacturer Thonet.
