Alphington is a suburb of Melbourne, located in the north-east of the city. The suburb is situated on the Merri Creek, and is bordered by Heidelberg West, Fairfield, Clifton Hill, Collingwood and Abbotsford. Alphington has a population of almost 10,000 people.
The first European settlers in the area were John Pascoe Fawkner and his party of colonists, who arrived in 1835. The area was originally called "Punt Road", after the punt which operated on the Merri Creek. In 1849, Punt Road was renamed "Alphington", after Alpheus Todd, an early landowner in the area.
