Former Metropolitan Gas Co.
194-196 Flinders Street
This large office block was designed by Reed Smart & Tappin (the same firm that worked on St Paul’s) and was designed to be a delightful complement to the Cathedral. The picturesque Gothic Revival style structure with Venetian influences was completed in 1892 as offices for the Metropolitan Gas Co, Melbourne’s major private gas supplier.
Edwardian postcard below, then followed by two of my own photographs, first showing the Flinders Street facade on the right of St Paul's, and the second showing the top west face.
