New Project Database

#1

Hi all, if you haven't already noticed, we have a new Project Database page which now integrates the list and the map.

urban.melbourne/projectdatabase

You can now filter by status, suburb and postcode and the map & list is automatically updated as you filter.

Good way to get a snapshot on projects: Just filter by status (i.e Under Construction) and then Items per page: All and hit search - it'll give you a full list of Projects in the Database Under Construction/Registration & Sales/Approved etc.

- you'll notice how many projects still dont have a forum thread, need to do more grouping ;)

In the next week or so, I'm going to create a leaner view which will appear at the top of this Projects & Construction forum which will allow you to find Project threads easier if you just browse the forum.

Hi Alistair,
Love the site, its very useful. Quick question
Is there a way to get updates sent to my email regarding new developments in my local council only?
Out of interest, I have prepared my own excel spreadsheet of the current developments and want to make sure I see any new ones that come along but do not want to have to check through all the old ones to do so.
Keen to hear back
Cheers

I note you don't have Mornington returning from a search of this project database. I assume this is merely because there are no developments recorded as opposed to it (mistakenly if so) not being considered part of Melbourne?

There is an entire block of 3 and 4 level apartments going up on Blamey Place (behind Mornington Primary). At least one of the companies invloved is NewTech Homes, although I found no info on there website.

I've looked at 2-3 projects in Mornington at any given time and mulled over adding them to the Project Database.

Here is another project on the go - Parkvue

Ultimately our eyes and ears don't reach that far down so we can't keep tabs on the progression of any given project in Mornington. Nearmap updates are also infrequent.

So easier to let them be given very little of our readership are interested in Mornington.

Hi Alistair

This site is really well put together. I was wondering though is there any way we can search for projects being done by Singaporean Developers? I understand this is a stretch but if anyone could advise it would be much appreciated.

Hi Alistair,
Fantastic website.
Can you advise how often the project database page refreshes itself with the latest projects?
Regards
Nick

Hello Nick

The database is added to as projects reach advertising with their respective Council's. Thereafter any given listing is refreshed as information comes to light.

Of the 1,400 plus listings, on average there'd be about 15-20 refreshed or new entries per week, plus projects that are removed upon completion.

Cheers
Mark

Development & Planning

The swirl of development activity in Footscray has found another gear as new projects are submitted for approval, or are on the verge of beginning construction. Two separate planning applications have been advertised by Maribyrnong City Council; their subsequent addition to the Urban Melbourne Project Database has seen the overall number of apartment developments within Footscray in development swell to 40.

The marriage of old and new can be a difficult process, particularly when the existing structure has intrinsic heritage value. In previous times Fitzroy's 237 Napier Street served as the home of furniture manufacturer C.F. Rojo and Sons. Taking root during 1887, Christobel Rojo oversaw operations though over time the site would become home to furniture manufacturer Thonet.

The former site of John Batman's home, Batman's Hill is entering the final stages of its redevelopment. Collins Square's final tower has begun its skyward ascent, as has Lendlease's Melbourne Quarter Commercial and Residential precinct already. Melbourne Quarter's first stage is at construction and involves a new 12-storey home for consultancy firm Arup along with a skypark.

Transport & Design

Infrastructure Victoria unveiled a new round of research into its larger programme of work dealing with managing transport demand. The authority contracted Arup and KPMG to produce the Melbourne Activity Based Model (MABM) and while it is new, it is considered fit for purpose in the strategic context.

Sustainability & Environment

Cbus Property's office development for Medibank at 720 Bourke Street in Docklands recently became the first Australian existing property to receive a WELL Certification, Gold Shell and Core rating. The WELL rating goes beyond sustainable building features with a greater focus on the health and well-being of a building's occupants.
