The National Trust guide to the historic and architectural landmarks of central Melbourne
South west corner of Queen and La Trobe Streets
This is undoubtedly the most striking of Melbourne’s new crop of apartment towers. Designed by Nonda Katsalidis, and completed in 2000, the tower has a strong verticality contrasted with projecting horizontal forms, and a corner ‘billboard’ for a changing program of artworks. The thick concrete elements and boldly projecting sections, particularly the levels that curve to a sharp point, make it sculptural on a huge scale.
