Platinum proves gold

Almost half the 435 apartments proposed in the exclusive Southbank complex, Platinum, sold before the official launch at Vue De Monde on Thursday.

From the restaurant on the 55th level of the Rialto, invitees glanced directly into airspace that will soon be filled with the 52-level Platinum tower.

The penthouse level will include a sky lounge, gymnasium, spa, sauna and 15-metre lap pool. It is one of two skyscrapers developer Salvo Property Group has earmarked for the former Crazy John's headquarters on the corner of City Road and Clarke Street. The two towers will be SPG's tallest.

Director Mario Salvo said he would donate $1000 from the sale of each apartment to the Ilhan Foundation.

Great news, and obviously Mario (and SPG) is doing alright if he's able to donate $1000 for each apartment sold.
I'll be so happy to see Mainpoint's ugly ass covered up.

I think I'd like to go to sleep for four or five years now, and wake up to find City Rd matured into a great living skyscraper boulevard - - Central Equity and its sales offices moved out to Waverley or whereever, and the road lined with great skyscrapers, and lively, active side streets reaching out behind.

Well, it's happening I think.

Asian investors are buying by the floor

Andrew Fortey, director of Melbourne-based property consultancy PDS Group, said Australian-based investors with permanent residency were also buying on behalf of offshore family members who were attracted to the security of Australian property.

Mr Fortey said most Asian buyers wanted to build a secure nest egg and diversify their wealth, and tended not to rent out the unit for the rental returns.

One Chinese customer walked into the display suite of Salvo Property Group’s Platinum project, to be built in Melbourne’s Southbank precinct.

The keen buyer walked out with the contracts for eight apartments, having bought $3.4 million worth of property in one hit.

You know...I wish they had built the Crazy John's Mobile phone, I'm sick of the lazy architects putting uninspiring precast concrete fins on top of these apartments and changing the glass colour, Zen, Carlson, Platinum, what next?

Platinum creators
Brookfield Multiplex has been appointed by Salvo Property Group to design and construct Platinum Tower, a 52-level residential building with 438 apartments at 263 City Road, Southbank, in Melbourne. The $280 million building is designed by architects Squillace; construction will begin in July and is expected to be completed in July 2016. Rincovich will manage structural engineering. WSP and Hydrautech will be responsible for service engineering along with Wood and Grieve, which will also do the civil engineering.
