NSW Government greenlights Darlington Terraces rebuild for affordable student housing
A $40 million project to refurbish university-owned residences in Sydney’s inner-city Darlington has been approved by the NSW Government in an attempt to provide more safe and affordable accommodation to students.
Owned by the University of Sydney, the terraces will offer 336 students and visiting academics affordable single and double room accommodation across the original Darlington Road complex and four new buildings, between two and four storeys.
“Darlington Terraces will be renovated and four new buildings built providing new and improved student housing in the heart of the inner-city and within minutes of public transport,” Stokes said.
The development will also include new landscaping, park upgrades and public art, delivering broader benefits to the local area.
University of Sydney vice-chancellor Professor Stephen Garton welcomed the approval.
