A suburb brimming with history: How the Candela Ivanhoe apartments tap into the village lifestyle

Ivanhoe, located just 10-kilometres from Melbourne's city centre, is a neighbourhood rich in history.

Surveyed in 1837, the area was known for its natural beauty and was named after Sir William Scott's novel "Ivanhoe" in 1853. Many of its streets were also named after characters in the book and it quickly became one of Melbourne's most prestigious suburbs, nicknamed "Toorak of the North".

In the 1850s, Ivanhoe Primary School was established, followed by hotels, public gardens, orchards, a racecourse, and villas. The Upper Heidelberg Road Fire Station, now the Italian restaurant L'Artigiano, is one of the area's most significant buildings.

Alternative investment managers Salter Brothers has tapped into the established community with their latest residential development Candela, positioned ideally at the entrance of Ivanhoe Village and near to all the community has to offer.

Candela has proven popular with a range of buyers, given it's diverse mix of apartment configurations and price points. It offers loft-style, one-bedroom apartments, right through to a penthouse collection, which is now sold out, with all residents set to benefit from the locale.

Ivanhoe boasts a rich architectural history with examples of Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco styles. The neighbourhood has a WalkScore of 90 out of 100, making it a walker's paradise with access to parks, restaurants, and prestigious schools.

Ivanhoe Village is a hub of activity, with popular cafe Pinkie, wine bar Vino Central, and Italian restaurant Woodfire Pizza e Cucina. The neighbourhood is also home to top schools such as Ivanhoe Grammar, Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar, Mary Immaculate Primary, and Bialik College.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Ivanhoe offers parks, walking trails, and golf courses including Ivanhoe Tennis Club and Ivanhoe Golf Course.

Established in 1912, Ivanhoe Tennis Club is one of the oldest in Melbourne and an iconic part of the suburb’s history, while the golf course is one of Melbourne's most picturesque courses, encompassed by native vegetation and bordered by the Yarra River.

Ivanhoe Park is a favourite among dog owners and their pets, while Ivanhoe Village provides convenient shopping, dining, and socialising options.

In addition to enjoying all the surrounding neighbourhood has to offer, Candela residents will also benefit from an in-house cafe, wine bar and rooftop gardens.
