ASX-listed developer Mirvac has topped out the second and final stage of its $790m NINE by Mirvac residential community in Willoughby.

When completed in early 2024, Stage 2 will comprise 214 dwellings across five residential buildings, as well as a community pavilion for both residents and the local community.

The residential community occupies the 3.2-hectare site of the former Channel Nine television studios, six kilometres north of the Sydney CBD. NINE by Mirvac has 442 apartments across 10 buildings.

Mirvac General Manager Residential Development NSW Toby Long said the topping out of Stage 2 was another demonstration of Mirvac delivering for its customers while ensuring quality in every detail.

“We acquired a site that was closed to the public for almost 70 years and we’re thrilled to be one step closer to transforming it into a place that not only residents but the widercommunity can enjoy,” Long says.

“NINE by Mirvac is a testament to our commitment to the Sydney housing market. Given our best-in-class 5-star iCIRT rating, buyers can be assured they are getting an industry-leading quality product.”

NINE will also include two proposed food and beverage tenancies, a 1,000 sqm retail/commercial building and 6,500 sqm of open space. The new community has been popular with local downsizers and young families attracted by the Mirvac design quality and the extensively landscaped surroundings.

The five buildings in Stage 2 - ranging in height from four to nine storeys - comprise a mix of one, two and three-bedroom residences, including penthouses with sweeping district views.

The buildings are an expression of distinctively timeless architecture created by the award- winning Mirvac Design Team in collaboration with architects CHROFI.

The Committee for Sydney (2022) estimates there is a historical under supply of about 96,000 dwellings in Sydney with data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW (UDIANSW) showing apartment approvals still remain 60 per cent below their 2018 peak.

“With NINE by Mirvac here in Willoughby, and the recent topping out of three buildings at Green Square, Zetland, we are not only generating more places close to the city for Sydney-siders to call home, but also fostering communities that will meet the needs of its residents for years to come," Long added.

"Our commitment could not be more important as we play our part in resolving the housing affordability crisis."

Mirvac General Manager National Design Brett Crellin says since 1972, Mirvac has been providing much-needed, and much-loved, homes for Australians and that that experience is invaluable, especially in the current crisis.

“We consider the quality of the material to extract the best value from it. We've got 50 years of experience delivering buildings, and we always strive for excellence that’s above and beyond. The team has been incredibly focused on leaving a beautiful legacy,” Crellin says.

“The level of design detail which has gone into delivering the vision has set a new precedent within our residential portfolio.” Mirvac’s five decades of experience are evident in the care and attention paid to social connectivity and well-being through the inclusion of The Gateway Hub, a multi-function space for residents and the local community. It features an open-air pavilion with a green roof, outdoor terrace seating and servery facilities, underlining the community values at the heart of NINE by Mirvac.

Stage 1 at NINE by Mirvac is anticipated for completion in Spring 2023 and Stage 2 is due for completion in early 2024.
